Less Than Ordinary

I’m just a teenager
Who pens down love poems
On the back of her hands
Hoping you’ll leave the land of broken dreams
And turn her dream into a reality
As magical as your soul.

I won’t dance to music
That deafens you to
The beating of your own heart
But I’ll sing a song or two
Hoping that someday you’ll wake up
And embrace what’s been there all along.

I’ll smile when you frown
And bear every cruel look you throw me
Across the room
Praying desperately the whole while
That you should never find out
How all of it hurts
Like hot wax searing tender skin.

Maybe I’m too ordinary
For someone with a name as special as yours
For, despite the secret within me
Threatening to spill out each time you get near
And strange cryptic signs showing up all around us
You refuse to see what won’t show.
